Help Me Help You Reach More Followers on Twitter

You may or may not be aware of the Twitter following limit, but its there. In fact, you may be a victim of it and not even realize it if you’re fairly new to the Twittersphere.

In order to combat spammers, and there are legion, Twitter has enacted a formula that stipulates how many people a user can follow based on how many people are following them. Clear as mud? Maybe Twitter’s best rules and practices will help you.

The bottom line is, you’ve got to get past the threshold in order to really grow your Twitter following.

As the popular saying goes, “You can’t fight City Hall,” and I don’t plan to. However, there’s another popular saying that goes, “there’s more than one way to skin a cat.” That’s where we can help each other. As a member of the Twitterverse you are there to see and be seen, one of the two or both most likely, so am I. So let’s help each other in those endevours.

You’ve either come to this page by clicking on a link in my Twitter stream, visiting my website and/or blog page, or doing a Google search about Twitter following. However you got here, you’ve expressed interest in reaching more followers on Twitter.

Most people follow people that follow them, I do too, but as you’ve read above, I hit the limit. Therefore, at this time, I can no longer simply follow-back those that follow me, although I really want to.

What I’ve done is created Twitter lists to not only sort out interesting fellow tweeps, but to sorta follow them as well. Creating lists allows you to better sort and organize people you follow and people you’d like to follow. A person is notified ever time they are added to a list, so now you’re able to communicate to them interest and they may, in return, choose to follow you too, or at least add you to one of their lists.

Take a look at my “People To Follow Next” list. I created it just to remind myself of who to follow once I’m able to follow again. I typically add a person to that list once they’ve followed me. It’s a win-win situation any way you look at it. You follow me, I follow you, we follow each other. New connections, more information is shared and we’re all better off for it.

So, help me to help you, and follow me. I’ll follow-back…eventually. Happy tweeting!
